DANCE STUDIO OWNERS
DO WHAT YOU’RE MEANT TO DO
(And, finally, start making real money doing it)
It breaks my heart when passionate, talented Studio Owners like you have to close their doors.
Because it doesn’t have to happen.
Hello!
Clint Salter here
I’m the founder of The Dance Studio Owners Association and I’ve been in your shoes.
You love dance. You love teaching. You love your students. But nobody taught you how to actually make a living out of it – how to be an accountant, a salesperson, a marketing guru, a collection agency, a manager, a secretary, and a mentor.
But that all changes today.
You deserve to do what you love… what drives you… what fills your soul. And more than that — your students, your community deserve what you have to give. And all that other stuff doesn’t have to get in the way of your passion anymore.
“This is supposed to be my passion… what I’m meant to do…
why is it so hard?”
I've been there...
When I owned my own studio I was wearing all of the hats: Administrative Assistant, Accountant, Marketing Manager, Office Manager, Artistic Director, Costume Coordinator, Competition Manager and on and on and on…
If you’re anything like I was, you’re doing it all but you don’t have the bank balance that matches the amount of hours you’re putting in. You’re tired of your business being called a “hobby” or a “pet project” by your family. It seems that everyone is holding their breath (and some days even you are) just waiting for the crisis that will send the whole operation crashing down.
Your personal life is taking a back seat to all of the tasks that need to be accomplished on a daily basis. You’ve lost all sense of BALANCE and the studio is starting to consume you.
Would it make you feel better if I told you that you’re not alone? Probably not — you’ve seen the comments and complaints from other owners on forums before.
What WILL make you feel better is finding the solution. Getting off the hamster wheel and finally building the studio you’ve dreamed of.
Imagine a World Where:
Isn’t that where you want to be?
The simple and tragic fact of all of this…
Not all dance studios get there!
There are a lot of studios out there. Unfortunately, too many of these owners stay in the “hobby” phase and wind up either burning out or giving up before they have the opportunity to see their business soar.
I’m often asked by Dance Studio Owners what makes a Dance Studio Owner successful? What makes them become the ones who run a thriving studio business?
I’ve boiled it down to a few key differences.
5 REASONS DANCE STUDIO OWNERS FAIL
(AND HOW YOU CAN AVOID THEM)
Mistake 1
TRYING TO DO EVERYTHING
The truth is that you don’t HAVE to wear every hat in your business. But often, we do. For a number of reasons — we think we can’t afford help, we don’t know who to trust, we think we can do it better than anyone else. But every minute you spend on a task that someone else could be doing is a minute you could be spending doing what truly only you as the owner can do… building your business and planning the future. And it’s another minute you’re not doing what you LOVE to do… working with your students, talking to new parents, and the other things that drove you to open a studio in the first place.
Mistake 2
THINKING OF EDUCATION AS AN EXPENSE
Many Studio Owners believe that they don’t have the budget or the time to invest in their continuing education — learning about business, keeping up to date on the industry, taking classes. I’m telling you that you can’t afford NOT to keep learning and growing as a dancer, as a professional, and now, as a business owner. Every penny I’ve spent on education has come back multiplied. Education is an investment, not an expense.
Mistake 3
INCONSISTENT ACTION (OR… CONSISTENT WRONG ACTION)
Dance Studio Owners who are really living the life they want have committed to take regular action. And no, this doesn’t mean being “on” all the time. It’s about replacing all the ineffective tasks in your full cup and replacing them with only a couple of effective things that will increase your reach and revenue in your business. Then doing what works again, and again, and again.
Mistake 4
“SAVING MONEY” BY NOT HIRING
(THIS IS A HUGE MISTAKE)
Like education, it’s easy to look at staff as an expense you can’t afford right now. But the right staff frees you up to focus on growth. I can show you how to hire the right way so the people you bring on board means more revenue, not less. And most importantly, put an end to the overwhelm and burn-out so that you love what you do all over again.
Mistake 5
GOING AT
IT ALONE
If you read my story above, you’ll notice that a huge turning point for me was finding a mentor… someone who had already walked the path I was on. Someone who had the success that I wanted in my business. This single action allowed me to short cut years of pain and struggle and many thousands of dollars in avoidable mistakes.
I want to make one thing clear, this Association isn’t for everyone.
Before you read on...
Dance Studio Owners Association isn’t for you if:
- You want generic business advice. While we draw on best practices from all types of industries, it is designed for the Dance Studio Owner. The vast majority of our conversations and resources are specific to the dance industry and may not apply to everyone. This is to ensure that members get only the most relevant strategies, tips, and practices.
- You aren’t passionate about your business. If you are waiting for a reason to get out from under your studio, I can’t help you. I only want people who love (or want to love again) their studio.
- You want to get rich quick. This industry is not an easy one to get into. Yes, I can show you how to make more money than you thought possible, but I cannot promise it will happen this week or even this month. Running a studio takes consistent, dedicated action and if you’re not interested in the work, please don’t sign up.
- You want easy answers. There is a solution to every problem inside Dance Studio Owners Association. But, the answers almost always take action on your part. Nobody is going to save your business for you — it’s up to you. If you won’t take action and aren’t committed to growing a thriving, highly profitable studio – this isn’t for you.
- You aren’t interested in helping others. The premise behind Dance Studio Owners Association is combining our joint experiences to solve problems together. If you are just interested in taking from the group without sharing the knowledge you’ve acquired, you’ll find this isn’t a place you’ll enjoy.
Who IS Dance Studio Owners Association for?
If you are any of the following, the Dance Studio Owners Association is specifically engineered for you.
You are:
- A Studio Owner who is ready commit to building your dream studio. You don’t want the “lazy” route… you want the route that works!
- Willing to change how you’ve been doing things. You know it can be done better if someone would just show you how!
- Able to accept guidance and advice from people who have conquered the problems you’re facing.
- A new Studio Owner who wants to shortcut the pain and frustration that comes from building a business from the ground up OR an experienced Studio Owner who is tired of the overwhelm, the burn-out, and the long days and ready to take your studio to the next level.
- Excited about the opportunity to become the go-to dance studio in your area.
Why THIS group?
UNRIVALED SUPPORT
I help Dance Studio Owners like you every day and I can honestly say that I don’t believe there is any other group out there that can help you the way our Association can through our tribe of like-minded Studio Owners plus the resources, online masterclasses, live events and of course my support and guidance (see below for all the resources you’ll have access to when you join).
GENEROUS COMMUNITY
Our Association is a community. It’s a community of Dance Studio Owners who have seen what I’ve not only produced with my own studio but my Studio Owner clients and members over 7 years. They’ve seen the results and they want to be a part of the action!

We’re also a tribe of people who like to have fun. We’re a very interactive and supportive bunch that will celebrate your wins and help you push through the challenges that arise from taking your studio to new levels.

I love the group because I feel like I have a team now. It's great to have a group of people that understand the challenges Dance Studio Owners face in a unique business environment. I also have so many ideas of what I want to do to build my studio - and the group is helping me map that out, along with a wealth of other information.

SYNERGY IN YOUR STUDIO
WITH SPECIAL GUEST, SUE SAMPSON-DALENA!
Sue is the CEO of The Dance Studio Of Fresno and an absolute powerhouse when it comes to creating highly profitable and successful recreational and competitive classes. She’s the true definition of the ‘Go-To’ studio owner, and in this special bonus video series will walk you step-by-step through the expansion of your studio as you grow and thrive, and ensure you are staying highly profitable while remaining true to you core values in the studio.
RECREATIONAL CLASSES THAT ATTRACT MORE STUDENTS AND KEEP THEM AT YOUR STUDIO FOR LONGER
In this video, Sue and Clint will be shining the spotlight on ‘recreational’ students and programs (those who come once or twice a week, and do not participate in competitions).
The duo will unleash their wisdom around:
- What is a ‘rec’ student, and why are they important to your studio?
- How to attract more recreational students using a perfect-mix of marketing strategies.
- Retaining your recreational students and ensure they are with you for the long-haul (no more ditching dance for other activities!).
- The studio culture checklist’ which guarantees recreational students are feeling welcome, engaged and invested in the studio.
DESIGNING YOUR PROFITABLE COMPETITIVE DANCE STREAM
Whether you are exclusively a competitive dance studio, have a mix of both competitive/recreational classes, or are considering opening up your studio to the world of competition then this session is just for you.
In this video training Sue and Clint open the knowledge vault around:
- How to shift your studio’s focus to a competitive program, and where the students will be coming from
- Establishing a clear vision and goals for your competitive students, their teams and their families
- The kind of commitment necessary to make a competitive stream work, and how to communicate these expectations effectively
- How to actually make money from these classes and competitions, rather than ending up out of pocket (and out of energy!)
MANAGING THE EXPECTATIONS OF YOUR PARENTS AND STUDENTS
In session #3 we dig in deep around the drama, resistance and frustration in your studio. Yes, that’s right – we are talking about setting, managing and communicating your expectations with those studio families and making sure you are all on the “same page” around their commitment to you (and vice-versa).
Sue and Clint aren’t holding back in this one, and share their actionable strategies around:
- Working with different skill levels in your rec and comp classes, and how to ensure all students’ needs are being met and exceeded no matter what group they are in
- Student placement in competitive and recital routines – the resistance you may face, and how to deal with it professionally and effectively
- Sue’s ‘from-start-to-finish’ walk-through of what it takes to create a winning comp routine, and what the entire process looks like from beginning to end
SYSTEMIZING YOUR PROGRAMS FOR SUCCESS
Now that we have covered the ‘Who’, the ‘What’ and the ‘Why’ around your various classed in the studio, it’s time we dig in deep into the HOW – and who better to walk us through the very systems that have made her studio so successful, that out ‘go-to’ studio owner herself!
This video gives a deep insight into the inner-workings and systems around Sue’s planning and setup for the year, her scheduling process, as well as her flawless registration, costume, merchandise and recital systems that we know you will want to steal and use for your own studio!
BRINGING YOUR TEAM AND YOUR STUDENTS TOGETHER
In the final video training in this DSOA-exclusive series, and this video is all about the synergy of your studio, your team, and your dance families.
You’ll discover:
- The ideal qualities to look for in teachers in your recreational and competitive classes (you’ll be surprised by how different they are, why this is so crucial!)
- What the ‘upsell’ process looks like when you are looking at moving certain students from a recreational space into a comp team when they are ready
- Tips for helping your team reduce stress and improve their mindset to ensure peak performance in a highly competitive environment

The Dance Studio Owners Association has taught Studio Owners from across the globe how to create 6 and 7 figure studios while transforming their lives and the lives of their students, staff and dance families. My current private clients are paying me $12,000 annually for my support and guidance. But…I’m not offering this for $12,000, or even $6,000 not even $100 per month.
I’m offering this for a small, monthly payment of just $47 and, as I said before, there are no contracts and no long term obligations.
However, if you choose to do so you can take advantage of the annual option. Simply pay for 12 months up front for just $399 and it brings the monthly payment down to less than $34 per month.
