Elevate Your Studio With Angela & Jodi
Welcome to our brand new Podcast Series, ‘Elevate Your Studio’ with Angela and Jodi.
Over the next 8 weeks we will be unlocking the joy within studio ownership with two dance studio owners – just like you – who have experienced the highs, lows, and in-betweens throughout their journey in business.
In This Week’s Episode
Angela and Jodi share practical strategies for staying creative (and sane!) in your dance classes while also running a profitable business.
“With entrepreneurship and any great invention, it starts with a creative thought. If you’re not letting yourself do that, and go there, then you’re not developing that muscle. In our younger classes, everything that we’re doing is a story.” – Jodi Shilling
The dynamic duo discuss:
- Their own backgrounds in the industry and getting started as studio owners (you may even recognise a familiar voice from Hannah Montana)
- How they structure their classes fro beginning to end, and involve storytelling and imagery to enhance the progression, results and joy from their students of all ages and abilities
- How they stay inspired and create magical ideas from the ordinary
- Their most fun games, props and techniques to help their youngest dancer with even the toughest of ballet terminology
The pair also talk about what it means to teach ‘more than dance’ and bring a next level of connectivity with their older dancers.
“I give all of my older teens a journal at the beginning of the year. It’s meant to be something that helps them to dream. It’s their dream journal. I have them write choreography in there. I have them find pictures of dancers to put in there. They can do whatever they want with it. Sometimes we’ll do guided journal meditation things, but mostly it’s just for them to really realize how special they are, because I don’t think they get that enough.” – Angela Mannella-Hoffman
