I’ve been a huge fan of SYTYCD and DWTS for a very, very long time. I remember watching these shows (the USA versions) years before we had local versions of the shows produced in Australia.
While I used to love watching the dancers, my favourite part of my weekly TV dance splurge was seeing what the choreographers would come up with. Teaching dance from age 14 and choreographing many dance competition pieces and local musicals for 13 years, I greatly appreciate the work and creativity that went into each and every routine.
One of my favourite choreographers from SYTYCD has been Mandy Moore. Her work is out of this world and I was thrilled when I had the opportunity to meet and chat with her when I was in LA in July of this year.
I straight away asked Mandy to be a guest on our podcast and she said YES. So, this week I’m thrilled to bring you my interview with her.
During the interview Mandy and I discuss:
- The big lessons she learned from her dance teachers that helped her pave the way for her career to date.
- Her creative process. How she continually comes up with new ideas and routines over and over again.
- The ONE thing that she wishes more studio owners would teach their students.
- The top qualities that top choreographers need to have a lifelong career.
We also dive into her life as a performance producer on the recent series of DWTS and what’s next in store for Mandy Moore.

Enjoy! This is one of my favourite interviews to date!
